Sharjah Sustainability Award (SSA)

Sharjah Sustainability Award (SSA)

The idea of launching the Sharjah Sustainability Award (SSA) emerged in response to the vision of H.H Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, of the importance of wild life protection and biodiversity conservation in the Emirate of Sharjah. The SSA is officially approved and accredited by the Sharjah Executive Board members. The environmental awareness programs in schools and universities are considered to be amongst the most important programs in the system of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPPA) which aim to sustainability through the preservation of biodiversity. It also represents one of the key awareness means in the process of expanding the circle of the targeted social groups, enabling the EPPA to achieve its goals that aim at preserving the environment and biodiversity. The significance of launching the SSA lies in engaging and inspiring all schools and universities students under the supervision of their departments and teachers to develop their perceptions of projects, ideas and independent activities to promote the principle of sustainable educational environment within the environmental specifications applied universally. The SSA is held during the academic year, and includes two target categories; the Sharjah government and private schools, in addition to the universities in the Emirate of Sharjah. EPAA has officially launched the SSA in four main universities in Sharjah based on the recommendation of the Sharjah Executive Board members, in line with the 3rd cycle of the award that is launched to all schools in Sharjah for this year 2014.
