Celebrating ecologically vital roles of vul

Kalba Birds of Prey Centre, a facility of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah (EPAA), organised a series of activities in celebration of the International Vulture Awareness Day, which falls on the first Saturday of September each year to increase awareness of the importance of conserving vulture wildlife. The activities included awareness programmes to highlight the ecologically vital role of vultures. Hana SaifAl Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, said "The International Vulture Awareness Day aims to increase awareness of the critical role played by the vulture in the ecosystem of cleaning up the environment and preventing the spread of diseases. "It also aims at organising activities to attract visitors from various age groups to the centre which is home to 52 birds such as the Lappet Faced Vulture, Golden Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Long-Legged Buzzard and other species which receive utmost care in an ideal environment."
